#whorunNYad: Orlando Asson

I try to surround myself with interesting people and love connecting them. That’s why I always ask my interviewees to introduce me to someone else to interview. Shannon is an artist, so it was only natural that she recommended someone with a strong visual sensitivity, and skills to match.

Let me introduce you to Orlando Asson.

In the creative industry…

Who are you, what do you do and where?

I’m Orlando Asson. I work at EP+Co on the production side of the company with a toolbox full of various skill sets that range from Motion Graphics to DP and Editing.

Why do you do what you do?

I’m a creative at heart and I love what I do! When I was younger, I would always draw. Growing up with the internet has only lead me to pick up more skill sets. The internet has taught me how to work in various programs such as Illustrator, Photoshop, and Premiere Pro before I went to school for it. I just love learning new skills/processes.

What keeps you inspired?

My personal projects outside of work keeps me inspired. I’m always either shooting photos or drawing. I also pull inspiration from various creatives that I look up to such as David Lynch. I came across an interview online where he talked about the connection of surrealism paintings in his films. This gave me an entire new outlook on surrealism artwork and inspired me to incorporate this in my photo work as well.

In NYC…

What brought you here?

EP+Co has brought me to the big apple! I’ve been with the company for about 5 years now, mainly working out of the South Carolina office for the past 4 years.

What keeps you sane?

Skateboarding keeps me sane. It always been my biggest release besides drawing. It’s the best feeling in the world cruising through the city looking for spots or with my camera exploring.

Where do you go to get great coffee / drinks?

I’m not a coffee drinker but I will go to Starbucks if get a craving.

For drinks, I like the Wilky in Bed Stuy. It’s close to my place and it’s super chill. They have an assortment of classic board games and at midnight they make fresh chocolate chip cookies and pass them out!
